When it comes to great legends in automotive world Henry Ford, Carl benz, Enzo Ferrari are some of the names which strike our minds. Recently there are few new entries to supercar manufacturers and Christian von Koenigsegg, Founder CEO of Koenigsegg Automotive AB is one among them. He is a man driven by passion. In the following passages I will be briefing his journey as an automobile manufacturer.

Christian was only 5 years old when he first saw a stop-motion film Flåklypa Grand Prix from Norway about a bicycle repairman who builds his own racing car. The film must have made an impression, as a young Christian grew up dreaming of creating the perfect sports car.  His first summer job was at a Suzuki dealership outside of Stockholm, Sweden, cleaning cars. At around this time, his hobby was tuning mopeds and was well known in his area. At the age 22, he started working on a prototype of building the world’s perfect supercar. He first built prototype without any engineering knowledge and he was successful in designing one. It eventually became the first production car for his company CC8S. It became the most powerful homologated production car in the world, according to Guinness Book of Records. The design was minimally altered in the following CCR, CCX, CCXR, Agera, Agera R, Agera RS, One:1 and Regera.

Some of his patents are Dihedral Synchrohelix Door Actuation System, Rocket Catalytic Converter, supercharger response system, Under-pressure dry-sump tank, Triplex suspension, Simplified variable tucbocharger, Carbon wheels and Free-valves.

It’s great that he made all the patents open for public usage. He feels that by doing this he can make his technologies reach every common man.

Another quality of him which inspired me was his determination. For instance,  in 2003, a fire devastated the factory. Although the building was destroyed, most of the equipment and all of the cars under production were saved. They moved to their current location, a former Swedish airplane hangar. In 2004, a new model was introduced, the Koenigsegg CCR. Up until then, Koenigsegg’s cars only complied with regional safety and emissions tests, but with the Koenigsegg CCX, released in 2005, they were able to expand to the whole world. In 2010, Koenigsegg came out with their most recent model, the Koenigsegg Agera. In 2014, Koenigsegg built the Koenigsegg One:1, a mega car, with a power to weight ratio of 1 to 1. In 2015, Koenigsegg released the Koenigsegg Regera, a high performance luxury supercar, at the 2015 Geneva Auto Show in March. At the same time, they released the Agera RS. Despite of such a bankrupt situation, he managed to sustain and he proved to the world the his car were no ordinary. It take extraordinary passion and determination to achieve this height.
