Time and Tide wait for none is a phrase taken in all its seriousness by Toyota Motor Corporation! I experienced Toyota’s Lean Culture during my B.E, Second year Industrial Visit to Toyota Kirloskar Motor Pvt Ltd, Bangalore with my colleagues which was really amazing. I would suggest every Engineer visit such a plant with well organized and clean environment.
The parts reach the assembly unit only when they are required so that inventory is reduced which in turn reduces space. They follow “Just in Time” concept which means the suppliers will supply the parts only just before a few minutes of the assembly process. Apart from that the parts also had neat tags which clearly explained about the parts and the guidelines to handle it.
Throughout the entire plant there was not even a bit of waste paper which shows that it is maintained with the utmost care and cleanliness and it is possible because the company spends dedicated time for maintenance alone. Each and every field worker was equipped with ample safety gear like helmets which showed that the company highly prioritized safety. As all the necessary parts and tools were very near to workers, they were very comfortable to work which in turn increases productivity and saves time.
They follow a rule -“Everything has a place and everything in its place” according to which each machine is provided with a boundary, each tool is provided with a proper place and boundary and even we were provided with a boundary to walk. Also, everything is checked frequently to be within the boundary line. We were in the plant for more than an hour and the culture they followed attracted many of my friends who had it as their dream company after the visit.
